   Information System

In this lesson I have learnt about Information system, honestly, in this class only I got to know the definition of Information system. I learnt how are the components interrelated and specially our lecturer gave us a clear idea about what is information system and she explained each components. It gave me very good understanding on this topic. We have to know what system is. System is a set of elements or components that working together to achieve a common set of goals, aim or objectives. Systems have inputs, processing mechanism, output and feedback. Input is the data that process into the computer and come out as information as output, by the information it will be feedback to the users. Now we get to know what information system is. Information system is a combination of hardware, software, infrastructure and trained personnel organized to facilitate planning, control, coordination and decision making in an organization. In information system there are component of hardware, software, database, people and procedure. This all system is used to build payroll system, Marketing system, customer service system and inventory system. In the past years in order to purchase an order it takes many process level by level. But now that problem solved by information system with just take one process that is by computer.

Furthermore, there is another component in Computer Based Information System (CBIS). The five components are same as the component of information system but there is additional one component in CBIS. The components of CBIS are the following:

*Hardware
*Software
*Database
*Procedure
*People
*Telecommunication

For each of the components there is specific purpose. Such as:
Hardware: Consists of computer equipment used to perform input, processing and output activities.

Software: Consist of computer programs that govern the operation of the computer.

Database: An organized collection of facts and information, typically consisting of two or more related data files.

Telecommunications: Electronic transmission of signals for communications which enables organizations to carry out their processes and task through effective computer networks.

People: Who manage, run, program, and maintain the system of information in the computer.

Procedure: Strategies, policies, methods and rules for using computer information system, Including operation security and maintenance of the computer.

Then we moved to another part in which information system is in more detail like what the use of information system, who manage every information system and it uses in many organization and so on. My lecturer showed a pyramid 3 level of information system where I got a better understanding about information system types and how they are categorized according to the organization's purposes. Actually, my lecturer was explaining us in a best way that one information system type and its definition, and its roles, its advantages and where it's being used. This method of teaching was really good. I was so happy that I was able catch up all these points. I could easily recall all my notes. It helped me to do my mid-trimester exams as well

There are many types of information systems. There are named as……..

- Transaction Processing System (TPS)
- Decision Support System (DSS)
- Expert Support System (ESS)
- Management Information System (MIS)
- Executive Support System (ESS)

And also two information system (OFFICE SUPPORT SYSTEM, KNOWLEDGE WORK SYSTEM)
These six information systems are divided into two groups. The two groups are Operation Support System and Management Support System. MSS, EIS, DSS is manage under Management Support System while TPS, ESS is manage under Operation Support System. ESS is use for making strategic decision, DSS and MIS is use for decision making and TPS is use for day to day info and operation.
